About Rich Girard

Rich Girard has been constructively involved in Manchester government and community affairs since he was graduated from Boston College in 1991 with a political science degree concentrated in urban politics and government.  His first job out of college was managing the first reelection campaign of Manchester Mayor Raymond J. Wieczorek.  From there, Rich worked as an assistant to Mayor Ray until August 1997, when he successfully ran to be the city’s first Alderman at-Large.

Rich retired the seat after the term to tend to his new family and growing marketing business.  However, in 2001, Rich returned to the campaign trail to challenge Mayor Robert A. Baines.  Despite the praise he won for his commanding knowledge of the city’s government and detailed proposals to improve it, voters gave Baines a second chance.  Rich returned to the private sector, this time starting a successful financial services business that has helped hundreds of families improve their personal finances.

Rich stayed involved, despite his growing family and business.  He hosted Girard at Large, a popular public affairs show on Manchester Community Television (1999 to 2003), wrote well read and highly anticipated weekly columns in The Hippo Press (5/2003 to 11/2003) and the Manchester Express (10/2007 to 1/2010) and was an insightful weekly guest on The Charlie Sherman Show (8/2008 to 8/2009).

Rich has also worked tirelessly for numerous social, not-for-profit, athletic and ethnic heritage organizations, serving as a trustee, board member, or committee member, and spearheading multiple community events.

Today, while maintaining his existing financial services clients; Rich hosts Girard at Large in the Morning,, a lively and influential Manchester area radio program with broad community appeal.  The show airs every Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 AM on 90.7 FM WLMW.  (Be sure to tune in!)  Oh, Rich and his wife Jen now have 5 kids!  (They go to church at Ste. Marie’s a lot, by the way!)

A native of Manchester and a 1987 graduate of West, Rich has devoted over two decades to educating the community about the critical issues in local politics and government.  He has served under, and is intimately familiar with, both the current and prior charters and understands why things have arrived at the point they are today.  Among other things, Rich coordinated the development of 3 city budgets as Wieczorek’s budget assistant and proposed two of his own as Alderman at-Large.  Despite his busy life, and because he wants his 5 children to enjoy the city he’s lived in and loved his whole life, Rich decided to offer his experience and expertise in service to Manchester once again.

The issues facing the city can be fixed.  If elected, Rich Girard will see to it that they are.

Vote Girard for Good Government!  Thank you!
